After staying overnight in Escalante, Utah at the Cowboy Country Inn, I resumed my journey on September 17th under mostly sunny and clear skies towards my next stop in Mexican Hat, Utah. The route along Hwy 12 took me through more of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, followed by Capitol Reef National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Natural Bridges National Monument. This day’s ride was about 300 miles in just over eight hours.
In the afternoon, clouds built up in the west and started to threaten rain. Apart from some sprinkles, my ride remained reasonably dry. However, the dark clouds and the low afternoon sun angle affected several of the photos, requiring modest enhancements. By the time I left Natural Bridges N.M., the poor lighting dissuaded me from taking any further photos on the remaining leg of the trip to Mexican Hat.
In the following map the red arrows show my route. (Click on the map to enlarge.)
Since there are over 200 photos in this photo collection, they are divided into four sections corresponding to those four major attractions.
- Grand Staircase-Escalante
- Capitol Reef National Park
- Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
- Natural Bridges National Monument
